Michigan Scholars

The School District of the City of Saginaw, in cooperation with its business partners, Dow Chemical Company and the Saginaw Business Education Partnership, launched the Michigan Scholars Program in 2006 at a local level.

Saginaw is one of two Michigan school districts (Howell is the other) selected to pilot the Michigan Scholars Program, which is designed to raise the academic bar for all high school students. Michigan Scholars is an effort by Saginaw Public School educators and area business leaders to encourage students to complete challenging courses during high school that will prepare them for quality jobs or higher education after graduation. The Scholars Course of Study gives students the foundation they will need to succeed in a technical school, community college, university, the military or industry after graduation.

The Michigan Scholars pilot program encourages students to complete a specific sequence of rigorous academic courses in math, science, language arts, and social studies during high school that will make them stronger candidates for jobs or higher education.
