Promise Zones could help Saginaw County students...
Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm has made a promise to Michigan students.
Saginaw educators say she won't find it easy to keep. Granholm signed legislation to establish
"Promise Zones," expanding the opportunity for students in communities with high rates of
poverty to attend college tuition-free. "At the heart of our plan to grow our economy and
create jobs is a commitment to ensure that every Michigan citizen has access to affordable,
first-class educational opportunities beyond high school," Granholm said. Read more
Understanding the Saginaw Promise Zone
Ethnicity has nothing to do with the Saginaw Promise. When funded, scholarships will be
available to most students based on years attending Saginaw Public Schools and years living in
the school district, including Kochville Township, Saginaw and Zilwaukee. One’s ethnicity, race,
religion, gender preference, country of origin, etc., will have nothing to do with qualifying for
promise zone funds. Read more
