Dear SPSD Families,

Thank you for partnering with the Saginaw Public School District to ensure that our children receive a quality education. Our staff is eagerly anticipating the return of students this fall. Please go to the Parents link on our webpage where we have provided you with times and dates for Parent/Student Orientations designed to assist families with having a successful school year. Please visit our district website (www.spsd.net) often, as well as your child’s school’s website for updates, resources, and opportunities to get involved in our schools.

Student diversity is an asset within the Saginaw community. Our district believes that all children and staff deserve to be a part of a school network where differences are valued and celebrated. At Saginaw Public Schools, we challenge all children as we complement academic rigor with extracurricular opportunities. We develop curriculum options for students that reflect real-world content embedded in technology rich lessons.

Our teachers have engaged in ongoing professional development throughout the summer to enhance their instructional planning and practices. They are focused on assisting students with mastering basic skills as well as exposing children to enrichment activities. Our students are fortunate to have an array of choices in the arts, music, drama and athletics, as well as comprehensive afterschool programming. We will continue to work diligently at providing our children with the best educational experience possible.

Please get to know your child’s teacher, principal, and building support staff so that we are equipped to be responsive to your needs. Your school’s PTO meetings, parent engagement activities, and athletic events are excellent opportunities for you to learn more about your child’s school culture.

As we conclude summer vacation, we wish your family a great start to the 2017-18 school year!

Respectfully,

Nathaniel B. McClain
