Cosmetology

Program Description

This state-certified program prepares students for the Michigan Cosmetology Exam and licensing process. Students receive hands-on training in a clinical salon lab environment. Training includes hairstyling and treatment, coloring, chemical processes, facials, and nails. Enrollment in this program, offered at a school of Cosmetology in Saginaw County, is limited to high school juniors and seniors who plan to return to complete the program. Students must complete 1500 hours of required skills training to be eligible for the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Exam. Students have the opportunity to participate in SkillsUSA, a national student organization. College credit may be earned at Delta College.

 4 cr. Cosmetology

Special Program Features

  • Students may participate SkillsUSA, a national organization that provides opportunities to develop teamwork, personal leadership, and career skills valued by employers.

  • Students who are selected to participate in the Cosmetology program will be prepared to take the Michigan State Board of Cosmetology Licensing Exam.

  • Students attend classes Monday through Friday.

  • A clinical salon lab environment provides real world hands-on training with customers.

  • Beginning students will start the Cosmetology program in early August and conclude their first year of study the end of June.

  • Attendance at a parent / student orientation in May is required.

  • First year students must complete 85 percent of the scheduled hours to be eligible for the senior (advanced) program.
