Horrible news hit Herig this week! Mr. Thomas was mandating that all kids had to eat peanut butter and jelly for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Panic hit the students, but Mrs. Urbani's first grade class knew what to do. See, they had been learning about the prominent activists for Black History Month. They learned all about peaceful protests and how to make their voices heard from people like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Ayanna Najuma and Ruby Bridges. First graders began to protest in the halls and educate others on why we need more than just PB&Js to have nutritious meals. When they felt like their voices weren't heard, they enlisted the help of the other first grade class and all of second grade to have a sit-in in the front office. They waited until their voices were heard and Mr. Thomas agreed to a meeting to discuss nutritious meals! In the end, Mr. Thomas agreed with first grade and plans to have more nutritious meals offered during breakfast and lunch!
