Over the past several Fridays, students participated in weekly mentorship sessions focused on life skills, communication, discipline, conflict resolution, and personal growth through the Power of Dad program.
The program wrapped up today with students receiving certificates of completion — but not before learning one final skill: how to tie a tie.
More importantly, students built relationships, gained confidence, shared laughs, and learned lessons they can carry with them beyond the classroom. Many students said they are already looking forward to participating again next year.
Thank you to the mentors and community leaders who continue investing time, guidance, and encouragement into our students.

Friday at Saginaw Middle School, students gathered in the media center for another impactful session with Team LOYALTY and founder Terry Reed through the Boys to Men mentorship program.
Students were engaged in real conversations about decision-making, conflict resolution, critical thinking, accountability, and life choices—lessons designed to help young people grow both inside and outside the classroom.
Team LOYALTY works with students throughout the Saginaw Public School District year-round, providing mentorship, encouragement, and guidance that helps students build confidence and navigate challenges in positive ways.

The Saginaw Public School District Board of Education voted unanimously to name the gymnasium at the former Saginaw High School (now Saginaw Middle School) after legendary coach, educator, and mentor Marshall O. Thomas.
From classrooms to championships, Coach Thomas built a legacy of excellence, compassion, and leadership that continues to inspire generations.
“To know him is to love him,” said Board Vice President Janet H. Nash.
“The naming of the gym where most of his activities took place is entirely appropriate,” added Treasurer Ruth Ann Knapp.
Superintendent Dr. Ramont Roberts shared, “I am just proud of being a part of giving back [to him] what he gave to the community.”
Members of Coach T’s family were in attendance, moved to tears as the board celebrated one of the most influential figures in Saginaw’s history.
Congratulations, Coach T — your name and impact will echo through these halls forever.
