Saginaw Public Schools kicked off the 2025–2026 school year by welcoming its largest group of new hires in years — more than 50 teachers and social workers, ready to serve students across the district.
The new staff members began their journey at the district’s two-day New Teachers’ Academy Aug. 13–14, an orientation led by the Professional Development department, Human Resources team, other district departments, and the Saginaw Education Association.
“This year’s group represents top talent from both within our community and beyond,” said Executive Director of Human Resources Tiffany Pruitt. “They are here to inspire, empower, and elevate our students.”
Among the hires are several who are returning to the district after years away — and others who are graduates of Saginaw Public Schools now coming back to work in their hometown.
A homecoming for educators
Janice Kato, a third-generation Saginaw Public Schools teacher, returned to the district nearly a decade after leaving. She will be teaching third grade at Merrill Park Elementary School.
“This was the one place where I grew a lot and got a lot of opportunity,” Kato said. “The growth in the district and the administration is what brought me back.”
Two members of the Class of 2019 are also joining the staff. Jayda Davis, an Arthur Hill High School graduate, will serve as a social worker at Thompson Middle School — a school she once attended as a student.
“It feels comfortable and welcoming,” Davis said. “It is full circle — I will be back at my old middle school.”
Aaliyah Williamson, a graduate of Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy, said her motivation is to give back to the district that supported her as a student.
“When I was in college, Saginaw Public Schools took a chance by letting me intern,” Williamson said. “I want to give back to show them my thank you.”
On the move
Pruitt said this year’s hiring success reflects ongoing efforts to recruit and retain high-quality educators and staff.
“If you’re looking to join a district where talent is celebrated, growth is supported, and impact is made every single day, there’s only one place to be,” Pruitt said. “Saginaw Public Schools is the best in the area.”
