It is with deep sadness that Saginaw Public School District announces the passing of Mattie Thompson, Trustee of the Saginaw Board of Education.
Ms. Thompson was elected to the Board on December 14, 2005, succeeding her late husband, Mr. Willie Thompson. Throughout her years of service, she was a tireless advocate for student and parent rights and a passionate supporter of economically disadvantaged and homeless students.
Beyond her official role, Ms. Thompson was deeply involved in our schools and community. She volunteered at numerous school functions and was a familiar face at community gatherings and celebrations. Known for her generosity, she often shared food and heartfelt desserts—a true expression of her love and care for others.
Her and her family’s legacy has left an indelible mark on Saginaw Public Schools and the entire Saginaw community. Ms. Thompson will be profoundly missed.
Out of respect for Trustee Thompson and her family, the Board of Education briefing session scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 5:30 p.m. has been canceled.
