On Wednesday, Jan. 14, the Saginaw Public School District Board of Education opened the new year by renewing its oath of office and appointing officers.
President Charles Coleman, Vice President Janet H. Nash, and Treasurer Ruth Ann Knapp all retained their leadership positions. Newly appointed and returning trustee Vera Harrison was selected to serve as board secretary.
Harrison was appointed in December to fill the vacancy left by the passing of longtime board member Mattie Thompson. She previously served on the board after being elected in 2018 and later ran for reelection in 2024.
Harrison now steps into the secretary role previously held by Kevin M. Rooker, who died unexpectedly earlier this month.
Rooker’s board seat remains vacant as the board continues the process to fill it.
