January is School Board Appreciation Month, a time to recognize the individuals who volunteer their time, leadership, and care to guide our district and support student success.
Serving on a school board requires long hours, difficult decisions, and a steady commitment to the public good—often with little recognition and great responsibility.
We extend our sincere thanks to the members of the Saginaw Public School District Board of Education for their dedication to our schools, staff, families, and community:
Charles Coleman, President
Janet H. Nash, Vice President
Ruth Ann Knapp, Treasurer
Vera Harrison, Secretary
Jasmine S. Calhoun, Trustee
Joyce J. Seals, Trustee
Together, these leaders help set the vision for the district, ensure accountability, and advocate for policies that support student learning and well-being.
Their work touches every classroom and every family, shaping not only the present, but the future of public education in Saginaw.
School board service is rarely simple. It requires balancing competing needs, listening to diverse voices, and making decisions with long-term consequences in mind.
Our board members approach this responsibility with integrity, care, and a deep belief in the potential of Saginaw’s students.
We also pause to honor and remember two board members whose service and dedication continue to be felt across the district.
We are grateful for the lasting impact of Mattie Thompson and Kevin M. Rooker, whose leadership, wisdom, and love for public education helped shape our schools and community.
Their commitment will not be forgotten.
Thank you to all our board members—past and present—for your service, sacrifice, and steadfast commitment to the students of Saginaw. Your leadership matters, and our district is stronger because of you.
