Classrooms and facilities across the Saginaw Public Schools District will soon benefit from a major energy‑efficient lighting upgrade designed to improve learning environments while reducing operating costs.

The district is partnering with Ameresco, Inc., an energy infrastructure solutions provider, to modernize lighting systems throughout its buildings. The initiative will enhance overall building efficiency and provide brighter, more consistent lighting for students and staff.

More than 12,000 existing light fixtures will be replaced with high‑efficiency LED technology and modern control systems.

The project includes an LED lighting retrofit with advanced lighting controls at 12 schools, three facilities, and the administration building.

Tim Furtaw II, executive director of facilities, said the project represents a long‑term investment in sustainability and operational efficiency—one that lowers energy costs, improves lighting quality across district buildings, and allows savings to be redirected to support students and staff.

Once completed, the upgrade is expected to significantly reduce electricity use and generate ongoing annual cost savings for the district. Work is scheduled to conclude by August.
