Saginaw Public Schools mourns the passing of legendary football coach and educator Jim Eurick, who died Thursday, April 2, at the age of 76.
A proud graduate of Saginaw High School, Coach Eurick was a standout football player and an All–Saginaw Valley League selection before continuing his playing career at Central Michigan University. His love of the game—and of helping young people grow—led him into a lifelong career in teaching and coaching.
Coach Eurick began his head coaching career at Chesaning High School in 1976, where he quickly built a winning tradition. Over nine seasons, his teams posted a 57‑28 record, captured four Mid‑Michigan B Conference titles, and made two state semifinal appearances.
Driven by a desire to return home, Coach Eurick accepted the head coaching position at Saginaw Arthur Hill High School, where he cemented his legacy as one of Michigan’s premier high school football coaches. During his 12‑year tenure, he guided the Lumberjacks to an 86‑35 record, four Saginaw Valley League championships, and five playoff appearances, highlighted by a Class AA state championship in 1991 and a state runner‑up finish in 1992.
Coach Eurick later brought that same leadership and vision to Bay City Western, taking over a program searching for its footing and helping lay the foundation for sustained success.
Over the course of his career, Coach Eurick compiled an all‑time head coaching record of 214‑115. His achievements earned him induction into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame (2017), the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and most recently, the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame in 2025.
Beyond the wins and championships, Jim Eurick will be remembered for his passion for coaching, his dedication to education, and the lasting impact he made on generations of student‑athletes. His influence extended far beyond the football field, shaping young lives through discipline, teamwork, and pride in community.
