Matthew Berchert

Saginaw Public Schools is proud to celebrate Matthew Berchert of the Saginaw Career Complex, who has been named the Saginaw County High School Teacher of the Year.

Selected by the county’s Teacher of the Year Selection Committee on April 21, 2026, Berchert is being recognized for his commitment to student success and his impact in the classroom and beyond.

At the Saginaw Career Complex, Berchert teaches in the Law & Public Safety program, where he equips students with practical skills and real-world insight into careers in law enforcement and public service.

Berchert is one of four educators across Saginaw County selected for this year’s honors:

  • Preschool: Courtney Blessing, North Elementary School (Birch Run)

  • Elementary: Jodi Tack, K.C. Ling Elementary (Hemlock)

  • Middle School: Tristen Siler, Hemlock Middle School (Hemlock)

  • High School: Matthew Berchert, Saginaw Career Complex (Saginaw Public Schools)

Each honoree represents excellence in education at their respective levels, demonstrating a deep commitment to students and the teaching profession.

The four winners are now finalists for the Mridha Foundation Teacher of the Year, which will be announced during a special celebration on:

The overall recipient will receive a $1,000 grant to support continuing education, professional development, educational research, or other educational purposes.
