Laticia Whitehead holding childrens book

Saginaw Career Complex Assistant Principal Laticia Whitehead has added “published author” to her accomplishments with the release of her new children’s book, You Can Be Anything!

The children’s picture book focuses on an elementary teacher who uses daily affirmations to build confidence and encourage positive thinking among students. During a classroom “Career Week,” students are introduced to different professions and learn about opportunities available through career and technical education programs.

Whitehead said the book was inspired by her passion for career awareness and helping students understand future opportunities at an early age.

“As an administrator, I am an advocate for career and technical education and early career awareness and exploration,” Whitehead said. “I believe students should have exposure to career pathways beginning in elementary school.”

The book is designed for students in grades 4–6 but can also be read to younger elementary students.

Whitehead’s career in education began in Saginaw Public Schools in 2003 as a substitute teacher. After graduating from Saginaw Valley State University, she began her teaching career at Central Middle School, even teaching in the classroom of one of the educators who inspired her own love of English.

A graduate of Saginaw High School’s Class of 1993, Whitehead has earned multiple degrees and certifications from Saginaw Valley State University, including her bachelor’s degree in English, teaching certification, master’s degree in secondary classroom teaching, and K-12 administration certification.

Her book is also scheduled to be housed in the Library of Congress, helping create opportunities for placement in schools and libraries across the country.
