From SCC Student to SPSD Professional: Jacob Counts Builds His Future in HVAC
Saginaw Career Complex is helping students turn classroom learning into real career opportunities. For Jacob Counts, that opportunity has already come full circle.
Jacob, a graduate of the SCC HVAC Program and Heritage High School Class of 2026, is now employed by Saginaw Public Schools as a General Maintenance Technician while continuing his education in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning at Delta College.
During his time at SCC, Jacob studied under instructor Jeff Supinger of Local 85, developing hands on skills in the HVAC field. His hard work and commitment helped him earn 2nd place at the SkillsUSA State Competition, a major accomplishment that reflects both his talent and the strength of SCC’s career focused programming.
Today, Jacob is putting those skills to work within the same district that helped prepare him. He now works alongside Tim Furtaw, Executive Director of Facilities, supporting the daily maintenance and operations of Saginaw Public Schools.
His story is a powerful example of what career-connected learning can do. SCC gives students access to real training, industry knowledge, and pathways that can lead directly into meaningful careers.
For Jacob, SCC was not just a program. It was a starting point.
Now, he is continuing to learn, continuing to grow, and already contributing to the district in a professional role.
This is what opportunity looks like when students are given the tools, support, and experience to build their future.
Saginaw Career Complex continues to prepare students for what comes next, helping them graduate with skills, confidence, and a clear path forward.
