Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy is celebrating a major milestone as its high school robotics team, Pantheon FRC 5193, has officially qualified for the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston.
The team secured its place on the world stage following an outstanding performance at the Michigan State Championship, held this past weekend at Saginaw Valley State University, where 161 teams from across the state competed.
Pantheon 5193 delivered a strong showing throughout the event, finishing No. 4 in their division after qualification matches and earning the role of Alliance 3 Captain in the Consumers Energy Division. Teaming up with other top competitors, Pantheon battled deep into the playoffs, advancing to Match 13—just one round shy of the finals—before falling by a narrow margin of nine points.
Their performance further solidified an already impressive season. Pantheon is currently ranked No. 13 in Michigan out of 531 teams, a standing that helped secure their return trip to the world championship for the second consecutive year.
Competing in their home region made the experience even more meaningful, as the team was supported by members of the school district and community, including SASA Principal Kasydra Goode-Tibbs, Superintendent Dr. Ramont Roberts, classmates, and other supporters.
A Pipeline of Excellence
This year’s trip to Houston will be especially significant for Saginaw Public Schools, as Pantheon will be joined by their middle school mentee team, Dragatrons FTC 10653, who qualified for the world championship earlier this season.
Together, the two teams represent a powerful example of the district’s STEM pipeline, with students developing skills and advancing from middle school through high school robotics programs.
A Season of Success
Pantheon’s advancement to the world championship follows a season filled with high-level achievement, including a standout performance at the Escanaba District Event, where the team earned both the District Championship Blue Banner and the prestigious Impact Award.
Looking Ahead to Houston
The FIRST Robotics World Championship will bring together top teams from around the globe, giving Pantheon 5193 and the Dragatrons the opportunity to showcase their innovation, teamwork, and technical skill on an international stage.
Saginaw Public Schools congratulates both teams on their accomplishments and looks forward to cheering them on as they represent the district and the Saginaw community in Houston.
