SASA Continues to Shine in STEM and the Arts
SASA students continue to earn recognition across multiple areas, including national STEM honors, robotics success, and regional innovation awards. Students have also been recognized for achievements in environmental science, performing arts, and visual arts, with large-scale exhibitions and competitions showcasing their work.
SASA MicroGuard team places in annual competition

The SASA team MicroGuard earned third place in the 13th annual competition, held April 25 at Saginaw Valley State University, following months of research, design, and development.
The team—Akshara Kanmanthreddy (Team Leader), Matlyn Miller, and Diya Ramakrishnan, under the guidance of coach Clara Wagner—developed a retrofittable, reusable washing machine filter designed to reduce microplastics entering waterways.
SASA Robotics Teams Headed to World Championship

Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy is celebrating a major milestone as its high school robotics team, Pantheon FRC 5193, has officially qualified for the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston.
Pantheon will be joined by their middle school mentee team, Dragatrons FTC 10653, who qualified for the world championship earlier this season.
SASA Student Named National STEM Champion

Diya Ramakrishnan, a junior at Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy (SASA), who has been named a 2026 National STEM Champion—one of the most competitive honors for student innovators in the country.
Saginaw United: Leadership and Bright Futures
Students at Saginaw United continue to excel through academics, athletics, and leadership opportunities. Highlights include robotics success, strong track and field performances, participation in Special Olympics, and career exploration experiences through job fairs and partnerships.

Saginaw United Law Club Defeats Carrollton in Mock Trial

The Saginaw United Law Club brought the heat at the Saginaw County Mock Trial Competition — and walked away with a NOT GUILTY verdict after defeating Carrollton Law Club.

Matthew Berchert Named Saginaw County High School Teacher of the Year.

Saginaw Public Schools is proud to celebrate Matthew Berchert of the Saginaw Career Complex, who has been named the Saginaw County High School Teacher of the Year.
Selected by the county’s Teacher of the Year Selection Committee on April 21, 2026, Berchert is being recognized for his commitment to student success and his impact in the classroom and beyond.

Agriculture & Animal Science Students Compete at MSU

Agriculture & Animal Science students had some incredible hands-on learning recently when they traveled to Michigan FFA State Skills Competition at Michigan State University.
They competed in Milk Quality, Veterinary Science, and Floriculture events.
Success Academy Career Exploration
Success Academy Hosts Career and College Fair

Students at The Success Academy recently participated in a College and Career Fair, connecting with colleges, the military, and local businesses. Events like this help students explore pathways and begin planning for their future.
From Our Schools
Across the district, students are learning, creating, and celebrating together.
At Zilwaukee Elementary, students brought the energy during a Hawaiian/Luau Day, showing off their school spirit with tropical-themed fun.


Arthur Eddy Academy’s Pre-K students enjoyed a special visit from Board of Education Vice President Janet Nash and her therapy dogs, Marvel and Moon Pie. After preparing by learning about dogs in class, students had the opportunity to safely interact, pet, and connect with the gentle animals—creating a fun and memorable experience.


Students at Handley Elementary participated in a Pinewood Derby.


Merrill Park students shared a fun send-off for Mr. Williams on his final day.

Fourth graders at Stone Elementary enjoyed an interactive visit from Supe’s Exotic Jungle, learning about animals and habitats thanks to a Foundation grant.


At Kempton Elementary, students celebrated strong attendance as the school earned the Attendance Championship Belt for March. #AttendanceMatters


Preschoolers at Chester Miller Elementary explored the Children’s Museum.


Jessie Rouse students in grades 3–5 kicked off MSTEP testing with energy and encouragement during assemblies supported by staff and community leaders.


At Thompson Middle School, students celebrated Earth Day through hands-on learning.


Saginaw Middle School PTSA supported students throughout testing season by promoting healthy habits, providing encouragement, and creating a positive environment. Their efforts helped students stay focused and confident.
They wrapped up the testing period with a well-earned celebration—a dessert bar filled with treats like peach cobbler, banana pudding, brownies, cheesecake, sugar cookies, cupcakes, and more.
